Wednesday 3 April, 4pm UTC, 11am Panama
Prior to October 2023, the government of Panama, hijacked by the mining industry, promoted the "Mining Country" plan with an unprecedented media campaign in the name of the "energy transition of the world". We will talk to two leaders of the organised popular movement to explore how a country managed to mobilise in the streets for more than a month, with 30,000 people daily (in a population of 4 million), with the presence of trade unions, young people, students and teachers, to make it clear that Panama is worth more without mining.
